NorthSide Movers - Chicago
NorthSide Movers - Chicago
I manage a couple office buildings in downtown Chicago. On July 31, 2006 a tenant of one of the buildings hired NorthSide Movers to move them from one office building to our building within the city. First off, they were supposed to be at our building around 1:00 PM. The tenant called and there was a delay with the movers at the building they were moving from. They arrived at our building around 5:00 PM. At 5:44 PM they mentioned to the security guard on duty that the freight elevator was stuck on the 11th floor (where they were moving the tenant to) and the doors would not close. The guard called in a service call for the next morning. NorthSide could not complete their move that evening. Our elevator repair technician came in the next morning and said that the elevator was not working because someone had jammed something large up against the “safety edge” of the elevator causing the electronic eye to break. This is the device that prevents the doors from closing if something is detected in its way. The repair was quoted at approximately $2400. Labor is over $250/hour! Needless to say we had to complete the repair. The moving company was contacted on 8/3/06 about the problem. Alex in the office asked me “why we didn’t have a freight elevator that could handle movers” Pretty ridiculous comment. I told him I wanted him to contact his insurance so he could file a claim. He told me to “turn it into your own insurance”. Then he told me he was too busy to talk, just email him the information and pictures of the damage. I sent an email and a letter with the pertinent info to them. It turns out that they are not licensed to do moves within the state of Illinois – only to do interstate moves. NICE. Rude, irresponsible, and unethical. Do not do business with this company.
