Complaint: Express Packers Movers

Complaint fetched from http://www.complaints.com/

pathetic exp with packers & movers while relocating - pls warn others

Hi all,

I would like to share my experience with two packers & movers while relocating from

Bangalore to Kolkata recently so that you can warn others from using their service.

Here is my personal experience:

To transport my household goods from Bangalore to Kolkata I hired Express Packers &

Movers (A Unit of Express Transport Corporation). In Bangalore they have categoricaly

told me several times that they have office in Kolkata at Chitpur. They have also told

me that the name of their contact person in Kolkata is Mr. Prakash and gave me his

contact numbers. After reaching Kolkata, when I called on these numbers, I found that

it is actually another company named Prakash Packers & Movers (P) Ltd. (A Unit of

Prakash Roadways (P) Ltd.) and they have a tie-up with Express Packers & Movers to

cater the clients in Kolkata. Till this point I was not aware of the presence of any

third party.

When Prakash Packers & Movers delivered my household goods at my residence in Kolkata

13 days after picking the items from Bangalore, I found that one steel Kitchen Rack was

missing. One Pradip Ararwal was there at that time on behalf of Prakash Packers &

Movers (P) Ltd. to supervise the unloading operation. On the spot I informed him about

this missing item. He promised me that he will talk to Express Packers & Movers in

Bangalore and will try to locate the item, failing which, he will pay me the amount I

declared for that item in the risk insurance. After 2 days, when neither of the two

packers & movers companies contacted me, I called both these companies personally. Both

told me that the item had lost and started blaming each other for the loss. Both told

me that the other should pay me the money.

Since then I have made several calls to both these companies to get my money; but have

not received any till date.

Since last one month the scenario is, whenever I call either of the Packers & Movers,

they invariably promise me with "100% gurantee" that I am going to get back the money

in "next 2-3 days". I have even threatened them to go to consumer forum; but they are

totally oblivious to it.

Their service is also pathetic. While packing we asked them to wrap the plywood boards

of my bed with plastic sheets. They told that it would not be required since it would

be transported in closed containers and didn't wrap it. But when we received the boards

the bottom parts were totaly soaked with water. Also, they didn't wrap the box,

containing books, with plastic sheets on similar ground. The box arrived with the lower

part completely soaked with water. Luckily in that box I personally kept the books in a

big plastic packet, which saved the books. We showed these things to the official of

Prakash Packers & Movers who said that he could not help since Express Packers & Movers

has not packed the items properly.

In this situation it is advisable not to use the service of Express Packers & Movers

and Prakash Packers & Movers since both these companies are basically cheats. Though my

loss was only about Rs.800/-, but the same could have happened with more precious items

like TV, fridge, music system etc. So I feel it is better not to take chances.

Thanks,

Koushik Chakraborty
