COMPLAINTS ABOUT MOVERS IN GENERAL

COMPLAINTS ABOUT MOVERS IN GENERAL

COMPLAINTS ABOUT MOVERS IN GENERAL

My complaint is not about any particular company in the moving industry, but more about the types of complaints made against moving companys by customers.

I am a 45 yr. old man who has been in the moving industry since 1988, and have actively been moving on a long-haul basis for the past 13 yrs. I DO KNOW OF WHAT I SPEAK !!!!!

TO THE CUSTOMERS :

first aguments usually brought to surface is:

"your cost of the move does not match my estimate"

1st and for-most, this is a lame argument to begin with. An ESTIMATE is just that...and educated guess as to how long it will take to put your items into a truck and transport it to your new location and unload it, PLUS 1 HR. TRAVEL-TIME...1hr travel-time is the time it takes(or portion of) to get FROM the office to your PICK-UP location and FROM your drop-off loaction to the next job's PICK-UP location(or back to the office, if it's the only job for that truck that day) and is a nominal fee of more than 80% of moving companies WOLRD WIDE. These estimates....ASSUME that the customer's have dismantled anything that requires doing so, to enable safe packing into a truck...eg. dismantling a bed, removing mattresses and boxsprings, removing/undoing head-boards/footboards, dismantling metal bed-frames....or in the case of buffet/hutches....removal of of loose sheets of glass, proper paging of glass....and the list goes on. there are many things that customers neglect to do themselves and are over-whelmed when a job estimated to take 4 hrs. may in fact run 6 or 7 hrs. KEEP IN MIND.... although the time for doing these things, (taking the time to properly prepare items {using moving pads to protect wood, glass, metal objects} and properly securing them within the confines of the truck in order to facilitate safe transportation of your property, are done as a curtisy to customers, but will no-doughbtly add to the time it takes to complete your move. The most common complaints stem from the lack of knowledge to TERMS OF AGREEMENT (contracts) that almost every customer is usually required to sign before work will commence, indicating a start time, hourly rate/or flat-rate quoted, size of truck, no. of men and whether or not travel-time will be included as part of the bill.

thenyou want to throw in the the rest of the terms, which are usually printed on the reverse side of the contract, explaining liability, insurance coverage, items not insured(usually quite lengthy), terms of payment( and some contracts stipulate payment required PRIOR TO UNLOADING).

PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE.......95% of complaints are a result of people not reading their contracts....YOU MUST READ THE FINE PRINT.....you would if it you had your car repaired, bought a car or a house wouldn't you ???????

insurance coverage is always an isue facing moving company's....(for customer satisfaction purposes only)

MAKE NO MISTAKE.....

if you as a customer do not chose to take FULL_COVERAGE_INSURANCE on your move(in order to save a few dollars), you will most assuradly not be re-imbursed for total amount of damages to property during your move....the nominal amount is usually around 60% of damages and it is usually at the companies discression as to whether or not the item(s) will actually be replaced or repaired....which ever is cheaper.

certain items are never included in coverage for different reasons.

EG.

IKEA or IKEA-LIKE

furniture is sold to customers in box for a reason...most customers will open the box, build the unit, but won't dismantle it for the move, but often complain when these items do not fair well during the move, these items are made of inexpensive materials and are prone to scratching, chipping or even total collaps. any glass which does not have a wooden frame, aint gonna be covered (if you pack the glass in cardboard or some other fasion yourself...still aint gonna be cover by the companies insurace, TV's, Stereo's or electronic equipment in general, usually not covered.....people have to remember to read their contracts in full and have any items not understood explained to you...BEFORE YOU SIGN !!!! Once you sign the contract....YOU ARE BOUND BY IT'S TERMS !!!!!!

remember folks...it's all about caviat-emptor(let the buyer beware).

I'm hoping that this explanation is a helpfull to you in your endeavors to have a successfull move...without surprises !!!!!

Respectively, WAYNEU
